How to query a CSV file with SQL
- Drop your CSV file on the page, or choose it from your computer.
- Write a SQL query. The file is available as a table named
data. - Filter the result under each column, draw a chart, and download the rows you need.
Why use a browser-only CSV tool
Most online CSV tools ask you to upload your file to a server. CSVQuery does not. Your sales figures, customer lists and financial exports stay on your device, which makes it a safe choice for sensitive data. You can check this yourself: open your browser’s Network tab while you load a file and you will see no upload.
Example SQL queries for CSV files
Find duplicate values in a column:
SELECT email, COUNT(*) AS n FROM data GROUP BY email HAVING COUNT(*) > 1
Total by category, largest first:
SELECT country, SUM(qty*price) AS revenue FROM data GROUP BY country ORDER BY revenue DESC
Filter and sort rows:
SELECT * FROM data WHERE price > 500 ORDER BY price DESC
Frequently asked questions
Is my CSV file uploaded to a server?
No. The file is read and processed locally by your browser. This page does not send your data anywhere, and network requests are blocked by its security policy.
How large a CSV file can I open?
The limit depends on your device memory. Files with hundreds of thousands of rows and tens of megabytes usually work well on a modern computer.
Which SQL syntax is supported?
Most common SELECT syntax works: WHERE, GROUP BY, HAVING, ORDER BY, LIMIT and aggregate functions such as COUNT, SUM, AVG, MIN and MAX. The table is always called data.
Can I export the result?
Yes. After running a query or filtering the columns, you can download the rows shown as a new CSV file.
Is CSVQuery free?
Yes. It is free to use and needs no account or signup.
